Good to know
Visa & Passport
For your trip to Jordan, you need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the duration of the trip. The passport must have at least two blank pages.
It is very sensible to have a copy of your passport with you. This can significantly simplify the process in the event of loss.
We'll most likely include a Jordan Pass in your trip simply because it's cheaper. Then we need a passport copy of each traveller. We will take care of the visa.
Otherwise, you can get your visa easily at the International Airport at arrival. It costs 40 JD (approx. 580 NOK / 53 EUR).
Money, Money, Money
The currency in Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar. Currently the exchange rate is around 10 NOK = 0,7 JOD or 1 EUR = 0,77 JOD. (Apr. 2023)
The best way to exchange your money for Jordanian dinars is at exchange offices within Jordan. Then the lowest fees usually apply. Ask in advance exactly how high the fees are. In Jordan, many things can now also be paid for with a credit card.
Health
No vaccinations are required for your trip to Jordan, but hepatitis A (Havrix), polio, tetanus and typhoid are recommended.
It is more important than ever to have travel insurance and check that it provides sufficient cover.
The hygienic standards in our accommodations and in Jordan in general are at a high level. You don't have to do without fruit, vegetables and/or dairy products. Nevertheless, you should of course be a little more careful. Meat should be well done, food well heated and everything well washed.
Safety
The political situation in Jordan is stable. However, protests and demonstrations sometimes occur. The majority of demonstrations are peaceful, but they can become confrontational. You should take sensible precautions and avoid all political gatherings and demonstrations. Follow the advice of local authorities and stay informed of the security situation through the media
What to pack
Clothes
Although Jordan is an Islamic country, the rules and laws here are not as strict as many people might think. For example, female travelers are not required to wear a headscarf. However, it is advisable to dress well and cover your arms and legs. You won't be accosted if you walk in shorts in touristy Petra, but you will maybe feel watched. In addition, wearing appropriate clothing is also a sign of respect for Jordanians.
Comfortable clothing is the be-all and end-all. Good, comfortable running shoes. T-shirts, pants, jacket/fleece for cooler evenings, swimwear, sun hat, don't forget an old pair of sneakers for the trip to Wadi Mujib!)
